Birthday & Messaging

Birthdays, when we were kids it was an occasion that our parents would celebrate for us and we would greedily look forward for this day to receive gifts. When we moved to college and left our parent’s home our friends would celebrate for us as, it was a day when we would buy them drinks and dinner. But as we grow old this date has lost it’s significance and was left to only exchange of WhatsApp greetings.

Birthdays are special. It is an event to celebrate your arrival to this world. It is the only day in your life which is truly dedicated to you. It is the only celebration that centers around you. Rest all festivals and occasions are dedicated to others,  sometimes to Gods, at times to seasons and rest to famous people . So in a true sense this is the most important date of your life.

It is also a day to be grateful that we are born as human being to enjoy the pleasures of life. Because we came to this world rest everything happened. So be grateful to the people and the power who brought you to this world. It is a day to be kind to others, offer help to the needy who needs your compassion. It is a day to thank your friends and families who has been there with you throughout the time. As it is said that life is a continuous process of learning so analyze the year which passed by the lessons it had for you to learn and look for the future to make it a better tomorrow.

So celebrate your birthdays with pomp and gaiety. Make it special. It is a day to make your soul happy and do whatever brings happiness be it charity or partying hard.

Body Temple

I first encountered this word when I visited Allahabad Cantonment for my CDS interview almost 13 years back. This word was painted on the wall of Gym in the cantonment. I quite could not relate the words Temple and Body. I saw some muscular man pumping irons sweating heavily so how can it be called a Temple. For me Temple is a place where you go wearing neat and clean dress definitely you have to take a shower before entering it. I thought its called Body Temple may be because it helps building a body like a Greek God as they are muscular, well-toned body with six packs. Anyways I was not interested in becoming a Greek God so did not pay any heed to the word, as I continued with my life.

Praying
Bodybuilding

But I recently found the true meaning of this term. In recent months I  had my own certain challenges of health and quickly needed to amend my lifestyle, my thoughts and feelings so I now realized the significance of calling Body a Temple.

Unhealthy Food
Body in Pain

Our body is like a Temple. Just think when you are planning to visit or to be precise to enter a Temple you ensure everything is neat and clean about yourself so we take a shower as it washes away all impurities. We even offer clean and fresh fruits or vegetable to the Deity and to our best possibilities enter the premises with clean thoughts devoid of anger, jealousy and greed. We ensure we do not take anything unclean, as we fear God would not accept it and may get angry on us as we have to face the wrath of the Almighty. We all try our level best to please the God.

So, our physical body is same like a temple, we should eat hygienic food, thoughts of the mind should be clear which will be pleasantly accepted. If we enter unhygienic food which I mean is oily, greasy, spicy, etc. That repels and the Body God becomes unhappy and curses us with ailments. Same goes for our thoughts, feeling of fear, anger, uncertainty are unacceptable to the body. So we face its wrath by bouts of anxiety, depression, leading ourselves to be burnt rather than the person or situation we wanted to burn with our anger.

Healthy Food
Aerobics
Running

So, lets feed our body with neat and clean food , our minds with thought of positivity, gratitude as the Body God readily accepts it as we are blessed with a good physical life.

The Toilet Paper Crisis

World with mask

Over the past couple of months since February 2020 there are lockdowns announced across the world by various governments. So people are living in fear that they don’t run out of essential supplies – Rice, Pulses, Vegetables as production and supply chain may be impacted. For the men folks’ essential supplies also include their daily dose of spirit as well so they are stocking enough alcohol to keep their spirits high at least for couple of months. People are running helter-skelter, getting up very early in the morning to run to the grocery store or at times queuing up for hours in front of a departmental store to ensure that their families have enough provisions to survive.

We living in Eastern part of the world is coming across news that in Western countries there is big Toilet Paper crisis simmering. There are riots and looting as people are trying to get hold of Toilet Papers. Many nations had to make announcements and assure their citizens that the country has enough stock of Toilet Papers at least for couple of years. Living in Eastern countries like India we are puzzled how unavailability of Toilet Papers can be a crisis. Over here we are running to multiple grocery stores so that we can stock enough Rice, Pulses and Wheat for our families to survive on being locked up in our houses for few months. Stocking of Toilet Paper or queuing up to get a roll of toilet paper would be counted as a Luxury in this situation.

Store out of goods

Shop closed during pandemic

Sitting in my home reading news from across the globe I was wondering why Toilet Paper is such a necessity. Then I realized although the world as one global village but there are 2 worlds that still exists one that is Developed where citizens does not have to worry about the bread and butter but have to ensure hygiene needs are not compromised. Then there is another world which is under-developed or let’s use a optimistic word i.e. Developing or Still Developing world where people have to worry that they don’t run out of rice and pulses, hygiene will be taken care of if hunger is taken care first.

My African Safari

Africa the rainbow continent. To outsiders like me in Asia or other parts of the world we think it is all about Jungle Safari or information we hear from the media like civil unrest, dictatorship, corruption, kidnappings, etc. This is a perception that most outsiders have built on basis of their ignorance about the continent.

I got a chance to see for myself what Africa looks like . My job brought me an opportunity to visit 2 countries in West Africa – Nigeria, a large and the most vibrant country in Africa which is full of life and Ghana, a hidden paradise. When my Boss asked me one morning if I would like to go on an assignment in Africa, I took one of the fastest decision in my whole life and accepted the proposal within seconds of being asked never knowing that this decision would help me in getting one of the best experience in my life.

flight to africa

So, when I landed in Nigeria through a transit flight via Kenya. The flight from Mumbai to Nairobi was like any regular flight full of tired travelers, however the atmosphere completely changed when I boarded the flight from Nairobi to Lagos. Suddenly I landed up among a group of young highly energetic co-passengers. It was a short flight and I landed at Lagos airport. On landing we were received by some private security contractors arranged by the company. They escorted us from the Airport to our Hotel. I was little scared that things might not be safe here, so, we had security persons accompanying us throughout, however I was also glad at the same time as back home in India one have to be very powerful politically or affluent economically to have security guards escorting them. Although little jittery but I was feeling special too as one of the security person was a lady so it was like having  Charlie’s Angels as my security staff.

After a night of mixed feelings, reality of life came calling me next day, as I had to start my assignment, I thought I will be accompanied by some gun toting security person, but there was no more private security only a private vehicle. I embarked on my journey and landed up in Bank Branches, whom I was supposed to visit as part of my assignment. I met the staff and the Branch Managers. Everyone was friendly, in fact nobody made me feel that I was a Foreigner.  I went to local version of American KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and had my meal with unknown people, but no one bothered or made me feel that I was a foreigner. I even went to a local handicraft market and everyone provided a fair price for my buying. To my surprise in one of the Bank Branches that I visited , one of the lady officer was watching a popular Indian Family Drama with English subtitles. Maybe being an Indian person, they thought I am one among them. People everywhere were friendly and welcoming. They were ready to accept foreigners without making them feel that they are outsiders but rather accept them as one among them and help in getting assimilated to the African society.

Till the time I did not visit Africa I could not relate the term “The Rainbow Continent” but, when I landed there, I realized that it is a truly colourful continent. People wear vibrant colours particularly in ethnic wears. Women wear colourful head gears which makes them look more beautiful. Ladies are pretty in Africa and their colourful ensemble makes them prettiest, men with their bold colour attires looks more confident and headstrong.

Africa is full of dreams, the working population is extremely young maybe the youngest across all the seven continents. This young generation brings energy and hope, as they have dreams to fulfill and which in turns gets the world going .

African People
Amazing Africa

So, Africa is far beyond the Jungle Safaris and information published in media. It is a continent of energy, hope and dreams. It is the continent of happy, friendly and welcoming people. It is the future of the world.
